| Britons stuck with credit card debt |
According to the latest research, more than 2.3 million consumers are struggling to pay the interest on their credit cards and always have a balance outstanding. This statistic is compounded by the fact that credit and store card interest can often be one of the most expensive ways to borrow money. Often store cards are sold by offering a discount on purchase of a particular item, but in the long term it can cost some consumers as they leave the balance on their store cards at high rates of interest.
There are ways to minimise the debt payments you have to make. Debt consolidation has become a personal finance buzzword, but can certainly bring enormous savings if done right. Often this will be a combination of replacing multiple store and credit card balances with a single low interest loan; and paying that loan off over a much longer period.

| Students face even bigger debts. |
|
A recent government white paper has suggested that your children and grandchildren could be looking at debts of over 20,000 when they complete their further education. The startling figure could apply to many students who start courses later than 2005. Amazingly, it is proposed that universities should be allowed to charge fees of up to 3,000 per annum compared with today's figures of just over one third of that. Although it's not yet clear that all universities will charge these higher rates, you may well want to start planning for the invevitable cost of your family's further education. To do this, you can either set aside some income to prepare for the future with one of these savings or investment options, or else you might prefer to take Financial Advice from one of these Financial advisors to ensure you're taking advantage of opportunities such as Child Trust Funds (CTF) and any appropriate tax efficient ways of saving.
